Sudpave plastic grid pavers are used to control the run-off of rain water to limit the impact on over loaded storm water infrastructure. Sudpave is an open cell structure, which is either gravel filled, for frequent intensive use, or grass planted for occasional consecutive use. The open structure allows rain water to permeate into the ground at its source. Sudpave is now manufactured in South Africa to meet the increasing demand for paving products that satisfy the requirements of a Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SUDS).
Locally sourced recycled material and resources are used to produce an economical non-toixc Plastic Permeable Paver for the control of storm water run-off.
Sudpave is the only locally produced Plastic Grid Permeable Paver available in South Africa. It allows rain water to permeate at point of source. It is therefore used as part of a storm water control system.
It allows this industry flexibility in design in order to conform to storm water run-off control regulations. Offers options of application, for configurations of mixing hard and soft surface parking and driveways. It can also be used as a stabilizing base medium for permeable resin/pebble paving applications, or synthetic grass.
Mostly in parking and driveway applications; Emergency access roads; Used for roadside ‘V’ drains; Roof garden drainage medium; Equestrian arenas; stabilizing dam grassed spillways; Walkways; Wheelchair access, Equestrian arena.
The grassed option of Sudpave allows the reduction of what is termed the ‘Heat Island Effect’. Grassed parking creates less heat absorption, and allows the designer to create a cooler inner city environment. With gravel infill Sudpave can handle heavy vehicle traffic loading, so this does not limit the options.
From HDPE. Recycled material is not always readily available, so it is 80% virgin HDPE. It is also UV stabilized. The material has a life expectancy in excess of 25 years.
We try and use as much recycled material as possible. Sudpave itself is recyclable, or re-usable.
Sudpave was developed with the assistance of Chem City, a mentoring initiative managed by Sasol. This gives credibility to the development process and product. Sudpave has been CSIR tested for load capabilities, and is suitable for any licensed vehicle loading. We recently used the eNtsa Engineering testing facility at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU). Comparative testing, to some UK samples to DIN specs, found that Sudpave performed better, gives us the confidence in our quality..
Being locally manufactured, allows the local market access to an affordable product with continued availability. It has also opened some export opportunities. We have supplied projects in Nigeria, and have exported to New Zealand.
The manufacturing company is based in Kya Sand, Randburg, Gauteng. We distribute direct to client ex- factory via a courier company, or collection ex- factory to suit client needs.
Sudpave is relatively new to the South African market; the concept has been around Europe for the past 25 years. We are still far behind in offering a complete package. There are more specifications coming through the Landscape Architect fraternity. Sudpave is merely one of the elements within the effort to save, re-use, and control our natural life giving resource being water. Look out for Sudtank!!
